On July 24, 2019, the Town of East Gwillimbury and representatives from the Acorn team were proud to open Walter Tunny Park, a new greenspace and park created to serve the existing community of Hometown.

Named after Walter Tunny of Newmarket, Ontario, the park pays homage to one of Canada’s local veterans who served and died in World War I. It has a unique linear layout and is equipped with two fitness stations and one main playground area, with a large gazebo and seating areas for local gatherings.

When designing the park, it was a priority that we maintain and preserve the existing trees and natural area, including some endangered species like the butternut trees. There are many young families residing in the community that are already using the amenities daily.
